Editor’s Note: I had planned on writing this article, but after seeing the pull that Mario got, it made it that much imperative, at least in my mind, that I write it.Way back when in 1990, I started collecting sports cards. Now, 18 years later after …

Guys, sorry for the lack of posts. While I have not been posting on this blog, I have been adding links. I usually add 2-3 per week but kind of avoided removing dead/inactive links. Well, thanks to J.V of Treasures Never Buried…close to 40 dead blogs have been removed.

I can’t help but feel guilty about my recent post entitled “Help!”. I just wanted to clarify that I’m not begging for your cards, but I am more than happy to help YOU build your collection through trades. Have a great weekend, folks. I’ll be in Gainesville watching Tim Tebow & Co. give a sneak peek as to what’s to come in ‘08.
And for all of you Georgia fans… enjoy the hype while it lasts.
That’s all I got…

This has absolutely nothing to do with baseball cards, let alone sports.
But, this is what I’ve learned today:
I have learned that I despise the term “Veep” in reference to the Vice Presidency
I have learned that we will either have a black male earn the Presidency or a white woman earn the Vice Presidency
I have learned that said Vice President candidate, Sarah Palin, is under investigation for getting her ex-brother-in-law fired from his occupation as a state trooper in Alaska. No, I’m not slamming her… I just want to hear the saucy details behind it!
I have learned that today is the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina striking New Orleans.
I have learned that most of the unidentified bodies of the Katrina victims were laid to rest today at a Katrina memorial. They were laid to rest at the same time that the first levee broke.
I have learned that Tropical Storm Gustav is projected to become a Category 3 or 4 hurricane by the time it makes landfall in the United States. Be safe and best of luck to those on the Gulf Coast.
I am off to Gainesville for the weekend for the Gators home opener against the Warriors of Hawaii. It’s Tebow time, boys and girls.
That is all

I have completely overhauled my want list, so just something to keep in mind if you any players included are dying to hop out of your 5,000-count boxes and into the mail. Again, feel free to send me a list of players/teams you collect, and if our agendas don’t conflict or a particular card is part of a set I’m completing, I’ll send it out to ya if I own it. No strings attached.

Straight from the back:
As of the close of the 2007 MLB season, Helton’s .332 career batting average is the highest among all active players. The owner of many Rockies team records, he has batted as high as .358 (2003), and last season he hit .320 for the third time in his career. Helton also has won three Gold Glove Awards.
… and has owned the Tulo Trader “Beard of the Year” award [retroactively] since 2006.

Injustice in sports, the officiating of course, on any level, is just that… injustice. Whether in The Bigs or in Babe Ruth; in the NFL or in Pop Warner, the wrong call on a play can change the entire outcome of a game. As a high school lacrosse coach…

If
you’ve noticed some cool Brett Favre variations in
Topps Football,
you aren’t alone. There are two variations of Favre’s base card in the set and both
are extremely tough to find.
First, there’s a card that initially looks identical to his base card, but a closer
look shows Vince Lombardi’s face in the background. Three completed auctions on eBay
have them closing at $237, $168 and $148.
Second, there’s a card that pictures the future HOFer riding a lawnmower. Yes, riding
a lawnmower. The last two of these on eBay have sold for $229 and $202.
There are also five rookies who have variations, including Matt Ryan (no helmet),
Brian Brohm (no helmet), Darren McFadden (crushing football), Rashard Mendenhall (crushing
football) and Jonathan Stewart (no helmet). McFadden is selling for the most, at around
$120 online.
According to the wrapper, the base card variations are inserted 1:1,722 packs, which
means each variation is inserted 1:12,054 packs.

Now it’s time for Upper Deck’s answer to Topps’ Allen & Ginter. I love retro sets, especially when they emulate their inspiration. Upper Deck didn’t stray too far from the 1934 Goudey design (correct me if I’m wrong) which was the model for the ‘08…

Tuff Stuff launched a “new” website today. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect from Tuff Stuff - waaaaay behind the times with lots of sloppiness, confusing navigation, and a progressively worse design. For example, click on the “Shop” link to visit Tuff Stuff’s shop and you’ll be greeted by a web developers [...]
