There was a nice pitcher’s duel in the California League between 21 year olds Ben Hornbeck of the Stockton A’s and Visalia Oaks phenom Trevor Harden. Hornbeck came out on top after tossing seven innings, surrendering four hits and an earned run while striking out nine. Hornbeck has been dominant at two levels this season [...]

Thanks to Jesse R. for submitting his “Phenomenal Pull” of a Stephen Strasburg USA Baseball Autograph out of 2008 Upper Deck Timeline Baseball. Strasburg has been all over the news lately and is one of the hottest players in the baseball card world right now.
Before he gets into a Nationals uniform and has the chance [...]

Jason Bay, the 2004 National League Rookie of the Year, was the first Canadian-born player to win the award. He was also the first member of the Pittsburgh Pirates to win the honor.
**factoid courtesy of ‘Armchair Reader – Grand Slam Baseball’
My take – while it is not too surprising that Bay is the first Canadian to [...]

Thanks to my Marlins having the day off, I had the opportunity to catch WWE’s Monday Night Raw. Like most normal wrestling fans, I stopped watching WWE religiously a few years ago. While it was somewhat fun watching wrestlers young and old competing, the night quickly deteriorated when it was announced that Donald Trump had [...]

We fell short of our goal of getting more than 300 entries in the Beat the Blogger
contest, but we are inching closer and the numbers continue to rise which is good
to see. One newcomer to the contest e-mailed me and said he forwarded the link to
the contest to more than 500 of his co-workers and that’s exactly the kind of initiative
we need to reach our goal so follow suit and we’ll get there. The good news is we’ll
give it another shot this week, and if we can eclipse the 300 mark, one lucky
winner
will claim the authentic, signed Chipper Jones jersey that the Blogger is just
dying to give away.
Beat The Blogger veteran “Peter” and newcomer Mary Tennigan each
scored 10 points to tie for the top spot this week and will both be receiving a signed
8-by-10 photo for their efforts. Congrats to both. The matchups for this week are
posted below so get your picks in so you can join the list of winners, too.
For those unfamiliar with the Beat the Blogger contest, the idea is simple.
The Blogger posts 10 matchups each week and then selects his choices for the winners
of those matchups. Contestants enter the Beat the Blogger contest by clicking on
the “Comment” section below the post with the matchups and then select their
own 10 winners. You can also designate one of your picks as a “Doubler” and
you will receive an extra point if you’re correct so don’t forget to designate your
“
Doubler”
pick and increase your chances of winning. If you Beat The Blogger’s total and post
the high score for the week, you win. The regular weekly prize is an authentic
signed 8-by-10 color photo of stars such as LaDainian Tomlinson, Drew
Brees, Marshall Faulk, Santonio Holmes, Gale Sayers, Catfish Hunter and many more.
From time to time, the Blogger will sweeten the pot for the weekly contest and that’s
where the Chipper Jones jersey comes into play. If we can get more than 300 entries this
week, the weekly winner will receive the Jones jersey so we need everybody to spread
the word about the contest so we can reach our goal.
This week’s matchups are posted below so make sure you get your picks posted
1/2 hour before the start of the first game on Saturday to be eligible.
And don’t forget to spread the word about how easy it is to win playing Beat The
Blogger so we can reach our goal of more than 300 entries this week.
This week’s Matchups (Winning picks in parenthesis)
Saturday June 20
MLB
Tampa at NY Mets
Chicago WS at Cincinnati
Atlanta at Boston
LA Dodgers at LA Angels
Arizona at Seattle
Sunday June 21
Milwaukee at Detroit
Oakland at San Diego
Houston at Minnesota
PGA Tour U.S. Open
Who will win: Tiger Woods or Rest of the Field?
What will the final winning score be: -1 to -6 or -7 or lower?

I found this scan on the Donruss/Panini blog, err… I mean Beckett blog. While I am no football fan, am I crazy in thinking this card is absolutely atrocious? What exactly is Donruss’ obsession over placing giant words over photographs? In my opinion, this idea killed Contenders for me and several other collectors.
Furthermore, why is [...]

If it appears that lately I haven’t blogged much about Andrew Miller, it’s certainly not for lack of interest. I still check eBay every few hours looking for that special card and I make it a priority to watch every single one of his starts. Despite his “bust” status placed on him by prospectors, Andrew [...]

On this day in 1995 Andre Dawson hit the 400th home run of his career!!
#400 was the last ‘milestone’ homer that Dawson would hit. It came against the Philadelphia Phillies in the 4th inning at Veterans Stadium. The pitcher that gave up #400 to ‘The Hawk’ was David West. I remember this game well because [...]

Well crime fighters, I believe the last time we met I was discussing 1965 Topps baseball cards and sharing scans of the cards I have gotten autographed through the mail (TTM). Obviously excited by the prospect of having their mugs posted on Cards in the Attic, a number of retired players have been taking the [...]
