on June 26th, 2009 by 30-Year Old Cardboard

On this day in 1994, Kirby Puckett collected hit #2,086 of his career giving him the all-time hits leader spot in Minnesota Twins history.  Hit #2,086 elevated Puckett past legendary Twins player, and Hall of Famer, Rod Carew.

Michael Jackson Trading Cards

on June 26th, 2009 by rosschrisman2003

In today’s hobby, its not that common to see an entire product based on a single individual.  You might see it done with a certain team, but rarely with one person.  Back in the 80’s, manufacturers made all kinds of trading card sets for specific celebrities including Michael Jackson.  In 1984 Topps released a set [...]

New Ideas for Baseball Cards

on June 26th, 2009 by Scott

With Topps having come out with 3-D baseball cards, it’s time for the manufacturers to think of new ideas for baseball card inserts and sets.  Well, to help them along, I’ve come up with a few ideas that they just might like.
Baseball cards with authentic newspaper clippings from the date when an historical baseball feat [...]

Did You Know…

on June 26th, 2009 by 30-Year Old Cardboard

Willie Mays is the only member of the 500 home run club to hit his first homer off a future Hall of Famer(Warren Spahn).  Sammy Sosa, another member of the club, hit his first home off of Roger Clemens, who will certainly be a Hall of Famer, too.

I still can’t believe it.

on June 26th, 2009 by JT

I kept saying it over and over last night. I can’t believe Michael Jackson is dead. I have not slept since the news came, so I’m sort of interested in seeing what my dreams will be like tonight this morning. Michael had such a major cultural impact in the 1980s. It’s difficult to explain it [...]

Cleveland Indians: How much do you care about fans?

on June 26th, 2009 by JT

The first major league respondent to the Fan Pack Challenge 2009, the Indians make things interesting from the get-go. They included a pocket schedule (which was excluded from the package last year), but the other stuff in the package was not super exciting. A nice oversized baseball card of catcher Victor Martinez (pictured below), and [...]

Dayton Dragons: How much do you care about fans?

on June 26th, 2009 by JT

Tied for the first respondent in the 2009 experiment, the Dayton Dragons shipped me three pocket schedules. That’s it. But hey, for a minor league team, I’m not going to fuss. That’s three more than some major league teams will send!
Scoring will be a little bit different this time around. Instead of receiving a point [...]
