Card of the Day: John McGraw ‘02 Topps T206 Bat Relic

on December 12th, 2009 by rosschrisman2003

I believe this is John McGraw’s only game-used bat relic.  This card is currently up for sale and I hope I’m able to snag it when it ends later this week.  Cards like this is why I think the ‘09 T206 product isn’t as good as the one from ‘02.

1986 Fleer Darryl Strawberry

on December 12th, 2009 by 30-Year Old Cardboard

1986 Fleer Darryl Strawberry
Darryl Strawberry is tall.  Officially, he is 6′ 6″.  Due to the photographer’s camera angle, he looks to be 9′ 6″.
1986 was an incredible year for Straw!!  He hit just .259, but it was his consistent display of power hitting and speed on the base paths that made him a supreme offensive threat.  [...]

‘Same Card, Different Paths’ – Card #24

on December 12th, 2009 by 30-Year Old Cardboard

‘Same Card, Different Paths’ – Card #24
1981 Topps - Card #479 – AKA – ‘The Tim Raines Rookie Card’

Tim Raines – This 7-time All-star and consistent MVP threat was a solid 5-tool player.  Raines’s specialty was stealing bases(he ranks 5th all-time), but his game was so much more than that.  ‘Rock’ scored 1,571 runs during his 23-season career.  [...]

Doin’ Two Babes at the Same Time

on December 12th, 2009 by Newspaperman

Made you look, didn’t I?
So here’s a hypothetical question I’ve been pondering as it pertains to my two Babe Ruth vintage cards: You’ve only got room for one of the pictured cards in your collection in the depicted condition. Which do you choose?
Your choices include a 1960 Fleer Babe Ruth in decent condition, off-center top [...]

Overhyped Amatuer Athletes – Lorenzo Booker

on December 12th, 2009 by chemgod

Earlier this year we had the world’s introduction to Bryce Harper, who either can become the next Babe Ruth or the next Matt Bush.  Since this over hyping of the high school athlete is not a new phenomenon, I decided to take it to the next level and once a week discuss overhyped high school [...]
