Kershaw is an outstanding young pitcher for the Dodgers.  We saw him hit a home run in Spring Training last year.  It was on his 21st birthday, too!

This is one of my reader requests that's taken me a while to get to.  Chris shared an awesome story about seeing this set for the first time and instantly falling in love with the design.  His favorite is the Ernie Banks card.  I don't blame him -- this is an awesome looking, all time classic set.  

I love reading stories about people's favorite sets, and what made them fall in love with collecting.  So I was more than happy to make this card for Chris!

Up next on the request list is a super custom card...with a custom logo even!  That's all I can say for now!

Tribute to 1992 Upper Deck

Photo of Kurt Mertins is courtesy of Minda Haas.  Aside from Kila and Moose, Kurt was our go-to guy this year at Roosenblatt.  Word from the PR team is that he's a pretty nice guy, too.  We bid on and won a couple of his game used jerseys, with proceeds going to cancer research.  Side story, but somehow Tim Collins' pink breast cancer jersey went for $700 (that's $400 higher than Moustakas).  Mertins was much less than both of those, I can assure you!

Here's a picture from the final game, as we left the park.


I look pretty happy in the picture.  I mean, it was a fun night.  I got to share it with my wife and parents, which was great.  That said, I choked up a little when we sang the seventh inning stretch acapella style (video at bottom, starting at 1:40).  Eesh.  You may have had to be there and grow up with it to know what I mean.

That said, I'm really excited about the new park!

This is Albert's tenth big league season.  Did you know that he has finished in the top ten in MVP voting...every single year of his career?  

1st - 3
2nd - 3
3rd - 1
4th - 1
9th - 1

I suspect this year will be no different.  

He's also been an All-Star every single year of his career, save for his second season.  That's right, the year he finished second in MVP voting.  The year he was hitting .294/.393/.579 at the break.

He's been a .300 hitter every year of his career.  I hope he keeps that up.

The Omaha Royals move into a brand new ballpark next year.  To stir up interest, the team is asking fans to suggest a team name.

I'm pretty partial to "Omaha Royals" but nevertheless I submitted a team name.  My suggestion is a play on words: the Omahabeneros.  Hot like a muggy Omaha Summer, with a tip of the cap to the many authentic Mexican restaurants around town.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, this "pun" actually has precedence.   Back in the 1800s, there was actually a professional baseball team called the Omaha Omahogs!

If I were to really get ridiculous, I could suggest the Omaha Seranomahabeneros!

For the nostalgic among us, here are the Omaha baseball teams of years past.  I think there are a lot of good names in there.
