A’s and Rangers in Oakland

This series was all the last hopes of the A’s this season, or something like that.

Game 152: Dallas Braden went eight innings gave up one hit. A’s get their 16th shut out of the year.
Game 153: A’s lose. Get smoked.
Game 154: I think this is where the A’s get mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Game 155:A’s were getting killed, make a late comeback and then go on to get killed 16-9. This was the last home game for the A’s in 2010.

Black On Black

Went to the A’s White Sox game on Wednesday. Funny thing happened. The A’s were wearing their alternate black jerseys and the White Sox were wearing their black jerseys. Not to mention the umpires were in black…and somebody put a football field on the baseball field.

A’s at KC

Game 143: 30 year old Bobby Cramer gets his first MLB start. Jack Cust hit his 100th home big league home run. If I’m not mistaken he has over 200 minor league home runs. Almost as exciting as that, Daric Barton got his 100th walk of the year. More exciting than that Cramer got his first MLB win. A’s win 3-1. Royals didn’t look too sharp.

Akinori Iwamura is on the A’s now.
Game 144: Gio gets killed and the A’s get killed 11-3. Eric Sogard picks up his first Big league hit.
Game 145: A’s lose. Chris Carter is back up with the A’s and still hitless after tonights game. I think he’s 0-24 right about now. Matt Carson hit a home run, I think he hit one about a week ago too.

Red Sox at Oakland

Game 140: Clay Buchholz vs. Trevor Cahill. Two All-Stars with 15 wins.

A’s win. Buchholz got rocked and pulled early. Cahill went seven innings giving up just three hits. Coco Crisp had three steals and once again he was making great plays in the outfield. Leaping and bringing home run balls back from over the fence, you know, that kind of stuff.
Vin Mazzaro gets sent down to AAA Sacramento.
Game 141: A’s come from behind, Red Sox get close in the ninth. A’s win. Good game.
Game 142: Josh Beckett vs. Dallas Braden. A’s lose.

August 9, 2010
The A’s promoted highly touted prospect Chris Carter from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Carter, 23, was batting .262 with 27 home runs and 89 RBI in 113 games with Sacramento. He is tied for fifth in all of minor league baseball in home runs and extra base hits (58), tied for seventh in runs (84) and ranks eighth in RBI. -from my email

A’s at Rangers

This series could make it or break it for the A’s this year…and the A’s lose the first game.

I was listening to the baseball channel on XM radio. They were talking about the trade deadline coming up this Saturday. The question came up, “What division is wrapped up”. One guy thought about it an said, “None”. The other guy said, “The AL West”. Then the first guy says, “Yeah, the AL West”.
The A’s have moved into a second place tie with the Angels. The A’s are 50 – 49 . Eight and a half games behind the Rangers.

Kurt Suzuki

The Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms with catcher Kurt Suzuki on a new four-year contract through the 2013 season with a club option for 2014. Suzuki, 26, has posted a .269 batting average with 39 home runs, 83 doubles, and 206 RBI in 431 career games with the A’s since his major league call-up midway through the 2007 season.

I guess the Red Sox won’t get him for a while, sure feels good knowing he’s going to be on the team for a while. Just like when Swisher signed that six year…hey wait a minute.

Angels at A’s

This is the last series before the All-Star break. 31 first time All Starers in there this year. Trevor Cahill representing the A’s. He’s pitching Sunday, so he won’t be playing in the game on Tuesday.
Friday Night: The A’s made it interesting a couple times, but go on to lose.
Saturday Night: Fireworks night in more than one way. Rajai Davis hit a double in the third inning. He promptly stole third. Then trotted on in to score on a wild pitch. The A’s managed to bat around in the third and Rajai hit a Grand Slam! The A’s scored 8 runs in the third. Five more in the fifth, including back to back home runs from Coco Crisp and Daric Barton. Coco has been a mad man in the few games he’s played for the A’s this year. I’m afraid it might be too little too late. The A’s are 8 1/2 behind the first place Rangers.

Yankees at Oakland

Monday Night: A’s lose. My car starts running bad.

Tuesday Night: Greg who has tickets for Wednesday, who I have to tell I can’t go because of a car problem, calls me first, in the morning to say he got tickets from his work, six rows behind the A’s dugout. For Tonight. Not only do I have to say I can’t go to that game, I can’t go to the two dollar Wednesday game. Tuesday night is a matchup of All Stars. C.C. Sabthia vs. Trevor Cahill. Not only is C.C. notoriously bad against the A’s. Well, by around the third inning when Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam off of Cahill, I was losing confidence fast. A’s go on to lose 6-1, or so.
Dallas Braden does not like the Get Off My Mound T-Shirts and either does anyone else on the team. I heard Robinson Cano was wearing one in the locker room.

Gabe Gross

From Roto Wire-

Gabe Gross went hitless in a third straight start Monday dropping his average to .255
Gabe GrossOAK

Gabe Gross went hitless in a third straight start Monday, dropping his average to .255.
And it’s an ugly .255. In 2008, Gross hit .242/.333/.434 with 13 homers and 40 walks in 302 at-bats for the Rays. This year, he has just one homer and eight walks in 149 at-bats, giving him a pathetic .255/.291/.322 line. The A’s have been giving him starts in place of the injured Conor Jackson, but he’s looking like a candidate to be released.

Also:

Eric Patterson hit not one, but two home runs last night, and now I’m hearing that Jake Fox also hit a home run. Both ex-A’s from this year. Meanwhile the A’s had a total of three hits against the Yankees last night.
A’s are now 41-43. In third place, 8 games behind Texas.

Series 22 A’s at Wrigley

Tuesday Night: One hour and 40 minute rain delay before the start of the game. Trevor Cahill (5-2 2.91 ERA) vs. Carlos Zambrano. Jack Cust strikes out with the bases loaded early in the game. Cahill gets an RBI when Cust scores later in the game. Derrick Lee has two errors in a row at first for the Cubs, and 3 runs score. He had no errors all year before that. A’s bat around in an ugly 4th inning for the Cubs. Cahill started falling apart in the fifth after giving up only one hit in the first four innings. Later the Cubs had another ugly inning of wild pitches and errors. I was listening to the Cubs radio broadcast and it sounded like announcer Ron Santos was having a heart attack, while the A’s scored 4 runs just after the Cubs pulled within 1 or two runs.

Before the game Jake Fox gets kicked off the team to make room for old broken down Conner Jackson who the A’s get in trade for AAA Pitcher Sam Delmel.

Does anybody remember Travis Buck?
