I am looking at the card facing me inside the cellophane wrapper, and I believe we have seen this before. That means, we have at least one double that I recognize! Wahoo! Sure, I know that may not mean much to you, but I am starting to feel bad for the folks who aren't getting any doubles yet. I'm just glad there's no admission fee. Then again, we still have plenty of cards to open up and lots of the same packs in different years/brands. Today, I've grabbed a 1986 Donruss ML All-Stars pack.

Hank Arron - puzzle 49, 50, 51
Carlton Fisk - White Sox - Pop-up
Jimmy Key - Blue Jays
Dale Murphy - Braves
Phil Bradley - Brewers

Say what!? Dale Murphy! Now, that's worth sticking around. By far, one of the best pulls from the oversized card set.

Each day of the regular baseball season, I am busting open a pack of baseball cards. These are packs that I have laying around and/or that I have purchased recently on a whim. I list the cards in the pack and scan in some of them. I shoot for 9 cards, but sometimes I may scan more, other times fewer. It all depends on how things hit me in that particular pack. Oh yes, there will be duplication. I have a TON of packs from certain brands/years. I will, however, try to mix things up throughout the season.

For those keeping score, I know there are not actually 182 GAMEDAYS in the 2012 season. I am counting ALL the days between Opening Day and the last day of the regular season. Frankly, it's easier that way. Thanks for playing along.

Also, you are welcome to claim teams/players (Max 3 total). Rules are at the following:
Hey, come on over! Thanks for stopping by on this Sunday for a look at today's pack of cards. Today, we've got another pack of 1994 Fleer Ultra Series II to rifle through. I hope we find something really cool in here today. Well, I'm hoping we find something really cool in any of the packs, really. And, we have found some inserts, some interesting cards, and certainly players we know by name. I have no doubt we'll find at least one of those today. Right?

Derek Lilliquist - Indians - WAHOO! I love starting off with a Triber.
Lee Smith - Orioles
Scott Cooper - Red Sox
Orel Hershiser - Dodgers

Damion Easley - Angels
Ryan Klesko - Braves
Bill Pulsipher - Mets
Rich Becker - Twins
Checklist
Turner Ward - Brewers

Pete Smith - Mets
Wayne Gomes - Phillies
Keith Lockhart - Padres
John Kruk - Phillies - Phillies Finest

The "Phillies Finest" cards are a neat change of pace. The Turner Ward card looks like it came circa 1950-something. Weird exposure on that one. Am I the only one that thought "Pulsipher" was actually "Pillpusher?" I mean, even back then, I thought that was his name. I am one twisted dude.
Hey, folks! How's it going out there? You're all looking at me like, "Hey, pal, you got some packs? Well, why don't you start bustin' them open, Circus Boy."*

Reaching in to the box of packs, I pull out a 1997 Pinnacle Hobby. No, not the "NEW" ones, the other ones they made in '97 before they decided to switch to the new design in midstream.

Fernando Valenzuela - Padres
Jason Dickson - Angels
Danny Tartabull - White Sox
Steve Gibralter - Reds

Barry Larkin - Reds
Curt Schilling - Phillies
Juan Gonzalez - Rangers

Bill Swift - Rockies
Kevin Mitchell - Reds
Roger Clemens - Red Sox

Wow. Fernando... I still remember when he first came to the Bigs and was touted the next best thing since Cy Young himself. Or, somthing like that. There sure a re a LOT of Reds in this pack. About a third of the cards are Reds. This one also gave us a look at some serious names in baseball at the time: Larkin, Schilling, Gonzalez, Clemens... Not a bad pack at all.

*Opening line 'borrowed/modified' from one of Brian Regan's acts.
Today is May 18th! My wife and I got married Twenty-One years ago today! Wahoo!!

In honor of that day, I bought a handful (literally - there are five) of packs from 1991 Topps! If you've seen "My Card" over there on the right of the blog, you may recognize the layout as being the 1991 Topps design. Yes, it is specifically the 1991 Topps because of our anniversary.

Also in honor of our special day, I will scan in 21 of the cards - one for each year my wife has put up with my craziness. I Love You, Shan!

PACK ONE:

Jay Bell - Pirates
Pete Harnisch - Orioles
Edgar Diaz - Brewers
Tom Gordon - Royals (Great "unrelated" story by Stephen King, BTW)
Willie Blair - Blue Jays (I made a Willie/Linda Blair combo card once)

Greg Swindell - Indians - WAHOO! A Triber in the first pack!
Rich Rodriguez - Padres
Gregg Olson - Orioles (Not one of the Olson twins)
Instant Win Card (loser)
Mike Benjamin - Giants
Dave Henderson - A's (always great to pull my namesake!)

Gary Sheffield - Brewers (One of faves in my younger days)
Francisco Oliveras - Giants
Mark Portugal - Astros
Mike Hartley - Dodgers
Tony Pena - Red Sox (I grew up watching him play for the Bucs!)

PACK TWO:

Tino Martinez - Mariners
Marty Clary - Braves
Gene Harris - Mariners
Tom O'Malley - Mets
Donnie Hill - Angels
Kirk Gibson - Dodgers (Awesome!)

Lou Whitaker - Tigers (Excellent!)
Lance Johnson - White Sox
Instant Win Card (loser)
Carlton Fisk - White Sox (Are you kidding me!?)
Nelson Liriano - Twins (Doing his "Billy Ripken" impression)

Wow, I'd have to go back over that list, but I don't think there was a duplicate in the lot. I have never WISHED for duplicates so much in my life. Never fear, folks! EVERYONE will get cards out of this break - you should know by now that there will be "surprises" for everyone!

Thanks for joining me on this special day for me and my wife! What did I get her? Well, for Mother's Day, the kids and I got her an iPhone 4S and part of that was for our Anniversary. I am also sending her roses - her favorite flower.

*I took note of adding subtitles to the posts. For the record, those are added AFTER the pack(s) is(are) opened.

Rules are at the following:
http://www.tribecards.net/2012/04/slight-rain-delay-in-182-packs-of.html

*The gum from these packs will not be given away. Though, admittedly, I am tempted to try a bite. The fear of puking my guts up stops me from following through.
Are the post titles getting monotonous? Certainly, they lack creativity. Alas, I am going for consistency and place-keeping, so I don't imagine the titles changing any time soon. I appreciate you coming along for the ride despite my logical approach to these breaks. Er, well, the titles anyway. I'm not sure how "logical" the break themselves are. If they were, I'd either set up a pattern or opene all of one type until they ran out or something. Instead, I am going for the randomness.

Today's random pack of cardboard goodness is: 1991 Studio

Rod Carew - Puzzle 34, 35, 36
Mark McGwire - A's
Mark Langston - Angels
Franklin Stubbs - Brewers

Rafael Palmeiro - Rangers
Mark Lewis - Indians - WAHOO! Breakin' out the Triber!
Hensley Meulens - Yankees
John Smoltz - Braves
Bill Sampen - Expos

Benito Santiago - Padres
Chris Sabo - Reds
"The Studio Set" title card

PEDs or no PEDs, I've always been a McGwire fan. Pulling Mark Lewis was a nice surprise! Go Tribe! That's back-to-back packs with Rafie, isn't it? Dang, I'd have to go look. Well, either way, nice to see him in the mix along with Smoltzie. I think it's a little weird that they made a title card to go along with the set.

Today marks the 42nd day of pack opening. As we all know, the number "42" represents a special place in America's Pasttime. So, today, I am going to bust open 42 packs of cards! No, just kidding. You think I'm nuts!? Well, even so, I'm not opening 42 packs in one shot. As fun as that would be, it would mostly serve to deplete my box o' packs.

I will, however, crack open a pack of 1994 Fleer Ultra Series II. That's close, right?

Chris Sabo - Orioles
Carlos Baerga - Indians - WAHOO! Let's Go Tribe!
Mike Kelly - Braves
Ramon Martinez - Dodgers
Pedro Martinez - Expos

Orlando Merced - Pirates
Fausto Cruz - A's
Juan Guzman - Blue Jays
Mike Piazza - Dodgers - Rising Stars

Okay, the Piazza card is incredibly cool-looking - shiny, sparkly, glowing. Very eye-catching! Glad to see a fan-favorite Indians player in the mix. That is always a bonus. I am curious if the two Martinez boys are related. That would be fun.
Hey everyone! Thanks for tagging along on our journey to open at least one pack for every day of the 2012 regular baseball season. I haven't gone back to look at the singles/doubles comparison, so I don't know where we sit as far as handing out cards to everyone. I'm sure that by the end of the season, we'll have plenty of doubles to go around. I realized today that I have a lot of single packs, which means no chance of doubles from those particular ones. I'll see if I can pick up some more of the packs that fit that category and try to force some doubles.

In the meantime, here's a pack I know I've got a lot of: 1996 Leaf Hobby. We've seen 'em before and we will definitely see them throughout the break.

Tim Wakefield - Red Sox
Edgardo Alfonzo - Mets
Gary DiSarcina - Angels
Roger Clemens - Red Sox
Shawn Green - Blue Jays
Mike Greenwell - Red Sox
Jason Isringhausen - Mets
Mark Loretta - Brewers - Gold Leaf Rookie
Jason Bere - White Sox
Ozzie Guillen - White Sox

We've got a couple cool action shots. The Gold Leaf Rookie looks WAY better in person.

Rules are at the following:
http://www.tribecards.net/2012/04/slight-rain-delay-in-182-packs-of.html
http://www.tribecards.net/2012/04/182-packs-of-baseball-rules-update.html

The big Four-Oh, ladies and gentlemen! We've hit 40 days of busting open baseball card packs in the name of... Well, the name of... I suppose in the name of just doing it, really. This started out as a fun side project, turned into a giveaway, and is growing into a daily "what's in the pot today" posting bonanza.

Today, I've pulled out another pack of 1998 Stadium Club "Evens" for us to gawk over:

Pat Meares - Twins
Mario Valdez - White Sox
Barry Larkin - Reds
Will Clark - Rangers

Mo Vaughn - Red Sox
John Olerud - Mets
Rafael Palmeiro - Orioles

Quinton McCracken - Rays - EXPANSION
Bob Abreu - Phillies - TRANSACTIONS
Checklist 2 of 2, of course.

"Bob" Abreu? I don't recall him ever being called "Bob." Wasn't he always "Bobby" Abreu? And, one would hope that with name like McCracken," that guy would be blasting balls out of stadiums for years to come. I don't know much about him. Sure, i could look it up, but then where is the fun in that? I'll let you tell me.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! As a special treat, I'm hosting a 2-for-1 Double-Header pack break today. Both packs will be opened in this post.

The first pack is a 1991 Studio featuring Rod Carew puzzle pieces. How many of us sat at the table as kids and put puzzles together with our mothers? I did. Though, what I mostly remember is her teaching me Canasta. I have since long forgotten how to play that game.

Rod Carew - Twins - Puzzle Piece 52, 53, 54
Glenallen Hill - Indians - Wahoo!! Triber right off the top of the pack! Sweet.
Ken Griffey Jr - Mariners
Rob Deer - Tigers
Kevin Belcher - Rangers
Mike Boddicker - Royals
Glenn Davis - Orioles
Tom Lasorda - Dodgers - Checklist

Ron Robinson - Brewers
Mike Greenwell - Red Sox
Greg Gange - Twins

Okay, we had a couple of well-known players in there. See any names that jump out you, maybe a player you and your mom remember seeing play back in the day?

We've got a double-header here today, folks, so don't go anywhere just yet! The second pack for today will be: 1994 Fleer Ultra Series II. Yeah, I know I just busted some of this, but it is what it is. Besides, these are going into folks' collections, and that is always good news!

Chad Ogea - Wahoo! No way! First card out of this pack is also a Triber!? That is awesome.
Terrell Wade - Braves
Dave Telgheder - Mets
Delino DeShields - Dodgers
Joe Grahe - Angels
Greg Vaughn - Brewers
Billy Ashley - Dodgers
David McCarty - Twins
Henry Rodriguez - Dodgers
Kevin King - Mariners

Charles Nagy - Indians - Wahoo! Another Triber in the pack!
Kirk Gibson - Tigers
Jose Hernandez - Cubs
Kurt Abbott - Marlins - All-Rookie Team insert

Wow, two Indians pulled out of the pack, plus more than a handful of other recognizable players as well. It was certainly a Dodgers-friendly pack, for sure.

I received a surprise in the mail. I had a bubbleope from Night Owl! That can only mean some good Triber cardness.

First up, we've got 2012 Topps Opening Day Grady Sizemore. I don't know if you can tell, but he appears to be look up at a ball he just hit. His facial expression suggests a long fly out. The next card is also a 2012 Topps Opening Day. Jason "Hitnis" is shown turning a double play. The guy on the ground is a Rangers player. Next, we have a 1990 Score Young Superstar Felix Fermin. He is catching some serious ball-tossing air here!

Mark Lewis starts off the next few cards. This is probably the pose that most sticks out in my mind when I think of Lewis. He is poised on a 1994 Upper Deck. The next card is UBER-SWEET! Greg sent a mini-1975 Topps featuring John Denny, Rawly Eastwick, Jim Kern, and Juan Veintidos. That is probably the only picture of Kern where his hair is not wild and crazy, sticking out all over the place. He also looks way more serious in this photo than I think he looks on any other card I can think of. Rounding out this trio, Omar Vizquel on a 1999 Topps Hands of Gold. Oh, ladies and gentlemen, this card is a thing of beauty. I am a sucker for the die cuts. Where is Pacific when you need them?

Finishing out the bubbleope, Justin Masterson is hurling ball on a 2012 Topps Opening Day. Frank Herrmann just finished hurling. That is one mean leg-kick there, buddy. Stay out of the way of that one! He comes to us on a 2009 Topps Black Parallel. Nice!

I am sending out a HUGE "Thank You!!" to Greg at Night Owl Cards for some great Indians baseball cards!! Wahoo!!
